YLI Timeline

January - New applicants must submit their online application to YLI Headquarters by January 31st.

March - Interviews and selections completed by March 31st.

Year 1 - World Leaders Conference (WLC) is attended by all member students and is student's first international experience in their YLI career. During the WLC students will participate in activities developed by YLI Headquarters staff to teach leadership and teamwork building, will discuss and debate current topics of worldwide interest, hear exciting and encouraging speakers from a variety of different fields, learn more about YLI, and vote on the location of your next years World Cultural Experience (WCE).

Year 2 - World Cultural Experience (WCE) is the second group experience with YLI and is designed to teach social and cultural understanding. While abroad, students will reinforce their bonds of friendship founded at the WLC, participate in a service project to assist the local country, and gain invaluable insight through this cultural experience that will broaden horizons and open eyes to a variety of different view points.

Year 3 - Life Skills Training (LST) is the third and final group experience in the YLI program. Students will address and discuss real life topics such as college opportunities, career choices, philosophy, and money matters. This experience will prepare you to face the "real world" with confidence and poise, as well becoming informed on how to make choices that may impact a student's future. The LST is currently held in Cambridge, England.

January 1 - 31 Interested students and their parents attend the "Get to Know YLI" hosted by the students preparing to attend the World Cultural Experience.

Applications must be received prior to January 31.

February 1 to March 31 Student interviews and selections are completed and accepted by YLI Headquarters.

April - Induction Ceremony for new students.

May - Attend your first monthly chapter meeting of the year - Included in the agenda are the following:
New students present their Service and Recreational Project ideas for review.

Discuss the duties of the Vice President, a role that everyone must serve for one term/Meeting, Begin developing "Our Country Presentation" to be given at the WLC, Develop a "chapter shirt" to wear on the WLC trip.

June - Second monthly chapter Meeting of the year. Included in the agenda are the following:
Schedule the Service and Recreational Project s chapter wide, Determine who will serve as Vice President during the terms of September, October, November, December, January, and February)

July - Participate in YLI's World Leaders Conference, World Cultural Experience, or the Life Skills Training.

September through February - Participate in the chapter's monthly meeting, discuss progress concerning required student projects, and prepare for the upcoming YLI program experience.
